Diego Narvaez was born in Mexico City. He lives and works in Sooke, on Vancouver Island. Through his work, Diego reflects on contemporary landscape while creating visual metaphors of how we, as society, construct reality through sight and how this affects our relationship with the environment. He has painted in different surroundings and conditions, from Antarctica to Iceland, Mexico City to the West Coast of North America.
Narvaez has presented solo exhibitions in important venues in Mexico. His current exhibition, Nature’s Sprawl – Urban New growth is being shown at Art Sales & Rental in the Vancouver Art Gallery. Collectively, he has participated in exhibitions in USA, Argentina, Spain, Canada and Mexico. He is now collaborating with scientists and an indigenous artist to address our relationship with the land and the oceans.
Through my work, I try to challenge the concepts and ideas we have of nature and the city. I am looking for alliances with organizations and companies which are interested in working for the environment. Presently, I am looking for a venue where to show my latest painting series. I am also interested in collaborating with scientists to address contemporary environmental issues in a complex yet meaningful way.
